Sea moss is a generic name given to a collection of different species of red algae. It is typically known as Gracilaria and Chondrus Crispus. The species Gracilaria grows abundantly in warmer waters (i.e. the Caribbean Sea, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans). These waters are normally constantly flowing, open ocean currents, and they tend to be much clearer waters too. While Chondrus Crispus is a rarer species by comparison, it tends to grow more slowly in the cooler waters of the Northern Atlantic.
